A cluster workstation is a multi-student desk that is most often used with computers. Cluster workstations are usually utilized to minimize the space required by each student. A cluster workstation reduces the space needed per student by combining multiple workstations into one desk. This method can reduce by up to 30 percent the space required by an individual student.

Cooperative learning is another benefit to the use of cluster workstations. In cooperative learning environments, students interact in groups to support the learning of themselves and others in the same group. Studies have shown that when implemented properly, cooperative learning improves information acquisition and retention, higher-level thinking, interpersonal skills, communication and self-confidence.
