Bretford Antimicrobial Connections Tables
Microbe Barrier Technologies is a trademarked name for Bretford's protective antimicrobial finishes. They are a blend of polymers and other substances that are coated onto the table or cart to help prevent the spread of germs. These finishes do not change the physical or mechanical characteristics of the products.
The wood surface coating on Bretford Antimicrobial tables use a physical reaction to disrupt an organism's cell membrane on contact to prevent it from metabolizing. The metal surface coating uses a chemical reaction that activates in the presence of moisture to inhibit the activity of enzymes in the cell wall membrane. Through extensive studies, these colorless, odorless coatings have been found to be safe and effective against a broad spectrum of bacteria, mold, mildew and fungi.
Shared public spaces, such as classrooms, are especially vulnerable to germs and their transmission to others. For example, a recent study by researchers at the University of Arizona found that classrooms are some of the most germ-filled public places. Cross-contamination occurs when people touch these surfaces and transfer microbes to other objects and people.
While the best way to reduce the transfer of germs is still good hand hygiene and effective cleaning products, Bretford's Barrier Technologies complement these efforts.
